This section provides a specific overview of the significant contribution of horse racing to the counties of Meath and Dublin, where the industry generates €390 million in expenditure and provides 5,437 jobs. The region contains five racecourses – Fairyhouse, Navan, Bellewstown, Laytown and Leopardstown - which were attended by 288,240 racegoers in 2023, and is home to some of Ireland’s most popular racing festivals including Dublin Racing Festival and Fairyhouse Easter Festival featuring the BoyleSports Irish Grand National. There are large numbers of breeders and trainers based in the region with 550 breeders and 80 trainers between the two counties.
