Downpatrick racecourse is one of just three all jump racecourses throughout Ireland. The racecourse is situated one mile from the centre of the historic town of Downpatrick and racing has been held on the present site for over 300 years. A tight right-handed course, distinguished by its renowned uphill climb to the finishing line, without a doubt this track tests the ability of each horse. Racing takes place each year from March to October respectively with 10 exciting fixtures spread across their racing months.
Being Ireland's oldest racecourse, Downpatrick attracts large numbers of crowds especially on their family and fashion race days. Downpatrick's two-day meeting in June offering thrilling jump racing and numerous different hospitality packages is the perfect opportunity to check out what Downpatrick has to offer.
Home to the the Randox Ulster National, this fixture at Downpatrick is one sporting event not to be missed. Usually held at the start of April it draws racing fans to the friendly track as it is a recognised trial for the Irish Grand National itself.
Uniquely this racecourse also boasts a connection to subsequent Cheltenham Festival winners 'Tourist Attraction' and 'Sparky Gayle' and Aintree Grand National winners 'Caughoo' in 1947 and the 1988 winner, 'Rhyme N’Reason'.
