Gowran Park is situated close to many famed training and breeding establishments in the heart of County Kilkenny, just outside the village of Gowran on the old Dublin/Waterford road. In 1952, the first ever Irish racetrack commentary in history was performed at the course. The venue boasts stunning scenic views and hosts regular high-profile races over the jumps and on the Flat throughout the year. Gowran Park is a right-handed oval of around a mile and a half which hosts 18 fixtures with 6 jump races and 12 flat races including Goffs Thyestes Day, Red Mills Day, Shamrock Chase Day, Denny Cordell Day and PwC Champion Chase Day.
Gowran Park is best known for staging the historic Thyestes Chase in January of each year, attracting bumper crowds to the extremely picturesque venue. The race is usually contested by horses who go on to run in the Irish Grand National and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
