From Kilmaganny, County Kilkenny, Katie O'Farrell rode her first winner at Clonmel on September 5th, 2013 on Strain Of Fame, trained by her father Seamus. Katie rode four winners as an amateur before turning professional and recorded her first winner in the paid ranks on the Adrian Maguire-trained Oscars Boss in a Pro/Am bumper at Cork on March 14th, 2016.
The Willie Mullins-trained Low Sun was very much Katie's 'breakthrough' horses and provided her with two very notable successes. The pair won the €100,000 Galway Shopping Centre Handicap Hurdle at the Galway Festival in August 2018 having previously won the RYBO Handicap Hurdle of the same value at the Fairyhouse Easter Festival four months previously.
