Kevin O'Brien rode Pat Flynn's first winner as a permit holder when Cheap Display scored at Clonmel in October, 1981 and he was again in the saddle when Virginia Deer gave Flynn his first winner with a full licence at the Curragh on May 22nd, 1982. Virginia Deer went on to win three more races that season, including the Group 3 Curragh Stakes on Irish Oaks Day. 

Pat Flynn trained the last winner at the Phoenix Park in October 1990 where Wild Jester scored under Christy Roche. 

In the interim, Flynn has enjoyed tremendous success and will always be associated with the dual Cheltenham Festival winner Montelado and the likes of French Ballerina, Designs On Rome, Aries Girl, Salmon Eile, She’s Our Mark and Bahrain Storm.
