From Donadea, County Kildare, Barry Browne began his career in Britain where he rode three winners before returning home. On The Shannon reignited his career with success for trainer Oliver McKiernan at Naas in November 2015 but he rode by far the biggest winner of his career when taking the Connacht Hotel Amateur Riders Handicap on the Joe Murphy-trained Swamp Fox at the Galway festival on July 25th, 2016. Browne turned professional shortly afterwards and rode his first winner on his first ride in the paid ranks when Call Me Pj, trained by Oliver McKiernan, won at Ballinrobe on Tuesday 9th, 2016.
