Based in Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Emmet Mullins enjoyed no shortage of success as a jockey and has reached greater heights since taking out a trainer’s licence in 2015. 

Within days of sending out his first runner, Emmet was among the winners as his cousin, multiple champion amateur rider Patrick Mullins partnered St Stephens Green to bumper success at Kilbeggan. 

2020 was certainly a breakout year for Emmet as Zero Ten became his first Graded winner when taking the Grade 3 Pierce Molony Memorial Novice Chase at Thurles. The Rachael Blackmore-ridden Oriental Eagle was a first Listed winner on the Flat for the trainer who claimed his first major handicap success when Cape Gentleman (a subsequent Grade 2 winner over hurdles at Kempton Park) won the Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh. 

Mullins won the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle with The shunter in November 2020 and the same horse would return to Cheltenham the following March to credit the trainer with his first Festival success, also a first Festival winner for Jordan Gainford, in the Paddy Power Plate Handicap Chase.
